Jar Testing: Plant Operations in a Beaker

Description

Jar Testing: Plant Operations in a Beaker (WWT-25-CT):

This hands-on course complements wastewater treatment plant personnel seeking to operate their sludge dewatering systems – centrifuges, belt filter presses and pressure filters – with costly flocculants as efficiently as possible. From a practical perspective it addresses basic laboratory techniques for producing stock solutions for flocculants, an understanding of gravimetric total solids (%TS) analysis results and chemical dosage rates. From these skills it will demonstrate how to screen different flocculants to select the one that performs best and then to optimize it. This course is geared to show the practicality of using a jar tester in order to better operate a key cost centre at many wastewater treatment plants.

What will be covered:

  • The mechanical components of a jar testing Program
  • The process steps for completing jar testing review of flocculant
  • The means of recording analytical and direct observations of a jar testing trial
  • The basic arithmetic for quantifying results from a jar testing trial
