Watermain Tapping and Repair (WD-100-HO):

The objective of this one-day course has been developed to provide participants with training on how to tap watermains and repair pipes in a safe, efficient manner, in compliance with policies, procedures, and legislation. Opportunities for hands-on application have been included to maximize learning and retention.

What will be covered:

  • Regulation, policies, and procedures
  • Complete small and large diameter taps and pipe cutting methods
  • Maintenance of tapping equipment
  • Identify and repair tap machine components
  • Repair procedures, spool piece installation, pipe couplings & connecting methods
  • Maintaining safe work procedures and avoiding hazards
  • Lateral connection failures and repairs
  • Service saddle installations

Hands-on training will cover:

  • Working safely with water main & sewer piping and identifying hazards
  • Techniques of pipe installation
  • Repair procedures, spool piece installation, pipe couplings & connecting methods
  • Wet or dry tap into mains of various types (i.e., cast iron, ductile iron, PVC)
  • Use & maintenance of standard tapping equipment for 3/4” to 2” taps
